Rijk Ravestein graduated with distinction from Utrecht University in 1980 with a M.Sc. in Cognitive Psychology.
After some years of practice as a behavioral scientist, Rijk started working as software developer in 1985.
Until 1987 he worked on a project automating the core administration of a health insurance company.
From 1987 till 1990 Rijk acted as coordinator producing several multi-user applications on LAN and midrange-systems
as fixed priced projects. His responsibilities included planning, analyses and design, quality assurance, and implementation.
In 1990 his career took a definite technical direction when working for Vleermuis Software Research in joint operation
with IBM Netherlands.
Here he evaluated several development tools concerning Client/Server technology and Object Oriented Programming by
building proof-of-concept prototypes.
| Since 1991 Rijk is engaged as both architect and developer in building distributed applications using
object technology. Besides some large projects counting several man-months, Rijk participated in a number of
smaller projects using Rapid Application Development methodologies.
Rijk worked for some of the largest IT companies in The Netherlands including IBM, Volmac, Cap Gemini and CMG.
Since 1998 he is working as a freelance professional.
Rijk's professional passion is developing quality business solutions using Information and Communication Technology.
Rijk lives in the city of Almere with his wife and two sons. In his spare time he enjoys his family, sports and classical music.
